Onsen
Relax in Soothing Hot Spring Waters
The hot springs of Yamashiro Onsen are a precious natural resource,
and also rare in that the water gushes out from a source that lies only a few dozen meters below the ground.
The volume of hot spring water drawn into our hotel is the highest in Yamashiro at approximately 100,000 liters per day.
The quality of the water is also excellent,
and has even won worldwide acclaim by taking the gold medal at the International Hygiene Exhibition held in Germany in 1911.
Our hotel boasts 3 unique bathhouses,
so we invite you to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing soak in the soothing hot spring waters.
Ruriko 瑠璃光
This bath takes its name from Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai, the Buddha of Medicine and Healing, and principal deity of Yakuoin Onsenji Temple, which also acts as the guardian of Yamashiro Onsen hot springs.
Constructed during the Showa era in the middle of the 20th century, when indoor hot springs were rare, the large communal bath proved extremely popular amongst hot spring lovers of the time, cementing its reputation through to the present day.
The hinoki cypress bathtub and hiba cypress walls give off a fragrant wooden aroma, which serves to further enhance the experience as you soak in the soothing hot spring waters.
Gensenkaku 原泉閣
The bath is located where the pond of the Japanese garden was originally situated.
Bathers can enjoy a relaxing soak, as the hot spring water flows in from the very spot where the original source used to well up naturally until the Showa period.
In addition to murals of artwork related to the origins of hot springs, guests can also enjoy the steam rising up from the open-air bath, which gives it a mythical atmosphere.
Special Bathroom
“Karasu-yu” 烏湯
Mist rising up from the hot spring water fills the dimly lit bathroom to create a special atmosphere.
There are both hot and warm baths, allowing bathers to switch repeatedly between the two.
A soak in the Karasu-yu bath will relax the five senses, providing a truly meditative experience.
